Obituary for Pauline M. Mayernick

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Pauline M. Mayernick, age 98 of Stratford. She died peacefully on December 19, 2018.Pauline was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward J. Mayernick, Sr., her son, Edward J. “Butch” Mayernick, Jr., and siblings, Paul Miklus, Mary Zenko, Evelyn Czyrnik, and Michael Miklus.

Surviving Pauline are her children; Patricia (Stephen) Cejkovsky, Gary Mayernick, both of Stratford and daughter-in-law Maida Mayernick of Bridgeport. She had several adoring grandchildren; Stephen (Kathleen) Cejkovsky, Sharon (Scott) Zajac, and Jessica (Jared) Forcier and great-grandchildren; Kayla, Emily, Lexi, Michael, and John. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Raised by Slovak immigrant parents, Paul and Anna Miklus, Pauline lived much of her life on the Eastside of Bridgeport. She was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner of St. Ambrose Church and is a current member of Our Lady of Grace Parish. She participated in the Madonna/Ladies Guild and Senior Clubs. During the 1960s and early 70s she worked for General Electric.

Pauline was primarily a homemaker and caregiver. Remaining active into her 90s, her motto was, “Always Trust in the Lord”. She was deeply devoted to her family, loved cooking Sunday dinners, baking Slovak favorites like pirohy, pagach, pascha bread, poppy seed and nut rolls. Pauline enjoyed having a good drink and listening to a great story. She believed that every day had purpose. That could be maintaining a home or participating in hobbies like sewing, crocheting, reading a mystery novel, going to the casino, riding the Atria Senior Bus, or saying a Rosary… everything had dignified purpose. While living a simple life as Mom, Gram, Baba, Aunt Pauline, or friend, she was a tremendous source of strength, wisdom, support, and unconditional love.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 11:00 am DIRECTLY at Our Lady of Grace Parish where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford.
