Obituary for Robert John Zimmermann

***All services for Mr. Zimmermann will be postponed until further notice.***

Robert John Zimmermann passed away peacefully in his home on February 29, 2020. He was born in Manhattan on July 19th, 1950 to Emily and Frank Zimmermann (both deceased). He was known as Robert, Bob, Bobby, grandpa, husband, dad, son, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. None of these titles do justice to the energy he carried into a room, nor the impression he left on all of those he met. Bob always shared fond and funny memories of his childhood, including stories of catholic school, working at the local butcher shop, and playing the accordion. An unwavering work ethic led Bob to put himself through college at night, earning degrees at St. John’s and Baruch College. He enjoyed concerts and spent summers in the Hamptons on Long Island.

Life ranged from going to Woodstock to working at The World Trade Center. He had a successful career as a corporate tax accountant for over 40 years. In his retirement, Bob served as an accountant and mentor for his son's business. He never missed attending, helping, and even dancing in his daughter's Nutcracker performances. His children, Kelly and Robbie (and Matthew, deceased), and their spouses, Shawn and Meghan, experienced the love, support, and friendship only a great father could share.

Bob's life was highlighted with spontaneity and loyalty. In true Bob fashion, after only 6 weeks of dating, he proposed to his wife, Karen, to whom he remained devoted for 42 years.
His comedy and unforgettable humor will forever remain in the hearts of his grandchildren, Cierra, Drew, Emma, and Keegan.

Bob's dedication to his brother-in law, Michael, and his in-laws, Charlie and Albina (both deceased), was admirable. Bob deeply loved all of his family, including his sister Marianne, and his brother-in law Joe; his brother Frank (deceased) and sister-in-law Nancy (deceased); and nieces and nephews: Scott, Darran, Joe, Christine, Linda, and Tom, their respective spouses, and all of their children.

Bob never missed a moment or an opportunity to make a memory. No matter how small the gesture, everyone in his life felt important. His presence and his smile will remain in our hearts forever.

As you remember Bob, take a moment to indulge in a “Bob Story”, and share these anecdotes with his family and friends; and honor Bob by taking that extra moment to be present, be kind, and fill your life with love and laughter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Bob’s honor to Make A Wish CT. Follow the “Visit Website” link below under Memorial Contribution for a donation form.
