Obituary for Vincenza Dailey

Vincenza Licalzi Dailey, age 94, of Bridgeport, passed on December 29, 2019 in Trumbull, CT.
Vincenza was born on February 3, 1925 in Cannicati, Sicily.

She resided in Bridgeport her whole life after coming to America.

Cheerful and brave were her defining characteristics. A devout Catholic all her life her faith was everything to her and gave her strength. She never missed her daily prayers.

When she came to America from Sicily, not speaking a word of English, she and her sister, Carla, walked the streets of Bridgeport in the snow looking for work and found jobs sewing. Vincenza and her sister stayed close all her life talking on the phone every day.

After her family, her passion in life was cooking. She worked many jobs but the one closest to her heart was working in the cafeteria of Fairfield University. Linda King, a student there, noticed her unstoppable hope and optimism and wrote a little article about her dream to be an American citizen for the school paper.

Becoming an American citizen was one of her proudest days. The other thing she was proudest of was her cooking and bringing people together with food. Her job at Fairfield University brought her a lot of joy. She worked there for 30 years and retired at 85. If she could have, she would have never left. Linda King had this to say about her, “Certainly anyone who comes in contact with this charming woman is touched by her overwhelming happiness and enthusiasm.”

She has left an empty space at the kitchen table for birthdays, holidays, and special occasions that will never be filled. Her laughter and lasagna can never be replaced, but all the love and wisdom she shared will be in our hearts and minds forever.

Her family was everything to her. She leaves behind her beloved daughters, Marion Lazariuk and Elizabeth Palmiero; her sister, Carla Caminiti along with her son, Peter and his daughter, Silvana; and her dear friend, Anna Erzen; her grandchildren Charles Pataky, Nicole Lazariuk and Laura Delzell (Luke Delzell); four great grandchildren, Charles Pataky, Thomas Pataky, Luke Joseph Delzell, and Lloyd Michael Delzell; She was predeceased by her firstborn grandchild, Charles Pataky, and six brothers and sisters in Sicily.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 9:15 AM at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford and at 10:00 AM at Holy Name of Jesus Church with a Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev.
